My Semi-British Week

Y’all know–because I’ve said before–that I LOVE Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. Martin Freeman plays Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit movie. Also, I have recently become a huge Star Trek fan. Unfortunately, I haven’t actually seen the original Star Trek movies, yet, but I happen to really like the new ones. Benedict Cumberbatch plays John Harrison/Khan in Star Trek: Into Darkness and was amazing! So when one of my friends introduced me to BBC’s Sherlock–with both Benedict and Martin–I fell in love. Now, I’m not a very big TV person–movies definitely–but sometimes I get addicted to a certain show. Usually shows that I never thought I’d be into. Ever. But it just happens. Like I CANNOT wait for the season premiere of Once Upon A Time on Sunday. Anyway, back to Sherlock. I couldn’t find anywhere to watch it without buying or renting it. It’s in the library system, but the first season has like 200 holds. Who knows when I would’ve gotten ’em. But my mom got the Amazon Prime trial and I was able to get both seasons for FREE on Amazon Prime Instant Video. AWESOME! Sadly, that Prime trial was ending in four days. I had FOUR days to watch six shows (each show is an hour and a half and there are three shows in a season). Of course, that was absolutely NO problem. I watched the whole first season that evening. AMAZING!  It’s really funny and I love a good mystery. So, basically, I’ve been watching and re-watching Sherlock all this week. But good things come to an end and the trial ended today. Thankfully, I had just finished an episode. I would’ve been so mad had it ended during. The last shows of both seasons end in the worst cliff-hangers possible. I thought Rick Riordan’s The Mark of Athena was bad. The end of Sherlock’s second season is on a whole other level. I believe the third season comes out in early January 2014. Piece of cake compared to waiting a whole year between The Hobbit and The Desolation of Smaug. Not really.

I absolutely adore their accents. It’s so funny. Since that’s pretty much all I’ve been hearing lately, I’m starting to think in a British accent. Is that weird? Oh well. Not much I can do about it. Now I really want to go to London! Also, it seems that I completely love Sherlock’s theme song. It just sounds so cool and . . . Sherlock-y.

I have to say, I like Martin Freeman better in The Hobbit, but I like Benedict Cumberbatch better as Sherlock Holmes. I think it’s the hair . . . yep, definitely the hair–somewhat longish and curly.

Anyway, I haven’t only been watching Sherlock. Yes, it’s what I’ve mostly been doing, but not the only thing. I’ve also been reading Sherlock Holmes! Man, I’m such a geek. At the moment, I’m only a few chapters in A Study in Scarlet, but when I finish, I’ll probably write a review on it.

Today my brother and I had our first cooking lesson for the year. My mom so strategically planned for us to make fish ‘n’ chips and earl grey tea cookies with, of course, earl grey tea. How awesome of a coincidence is that?? I mean, she planned for us to make that weeks ago. And this just so happens to be the week that I find my inner UK “fangirl.”

Now, I realize that I’m pretty much basing my whole entire fangirling on one BBC show, but I like some other British stuff, too, I suppose. There’s Pride and Prejudice, Thor (movie with Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston), and . . . I’m sure there’s more, I just can’t think of any at the moment.

Well, that’s pretty much all that’s going on. When I become an international best-selling author, I’ll make sure London is one of the first places I go. 🙂

UPDATE!! Doctor Who is totally added to that list.

  1. Try doctor who! Not the classic, unless you want to, but its another show by BBC and its awesome! The new kind started again in 2005 and it picked up where the old series left off but picking up there its explains everything so your only lost for the first part 😉 Definitely start with the first season because now its on the seventh! I’m only on the fourth season but I can tell you its a really good show.

    • I have actually started watching the newer Doctor Who seasons. I absolutely LOVE them!!! I’m starting on the fifth season, but I’ve watched an episode or two from it already. I have to say, I like the tenth Doctor best. What about you?
