Rick Riordan in St. Louis

I said in my Meeting Marissa Meyer post that I’ve already met two of my three favorite (living) authors, and all I needed to do was get Rick Riordan out here. Well, I didn’t exactly see him close by. We had to go all the way to St. Louis, MO to see him. That’s pretty far away from where I’m from. Anyway, back in August, RR released the dates and locations of his House of Hades tour. Around that time, my parents were planning a road trip to North Carolina for my dad’s work conference. So . . . put two and two together and what do you get?

You get to see Rick Riordan! And a signed copy of The House of Hades. Jealous yet? Oh, it gets better, just wait.

Those of you who’ve read the books probably already know he’s got a sense of humor. But let me tell you: That guy is hilarious! It was like going to a comedy show. He told us all about his childhood and how he became a writer. Oh, and something that I thought was probably the most important part of the whole evening: Rick Riordan is a Whovian!! He totally whipped out some Dalek extermination; it was . . . I can’t find the right word. Amazing? Times ten?

Oh, and did you know “Dalek” is in the Bing dictionary? Look it up.

Back on track. Here’s the part where you’re going to be jumping up and down with jealousy. My brother and I won Camp Half-Blood and Camp Jupiter T-shirts! I got Camp Jupiter (because I like purple) and my brother got Camp Half-Blood.

I’ve been trying to get my brother to read Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief for the LONGEST time. And since we were going to see the author, he read it on the car ride! And guess what? He loved it! Exactly what I’ve been telling him for almost a year.

Now I have to wait a whole year for the next one to come out. Oi!

This video isn’t from St. Louis, but it’s exactly the same as the one I saw. Hope you enjoy!

  1. Sounds like you sure had fun! But I don’t really know what House of Hades is about. Sounds kind of scary. Can you give me any info on it?

    • Yeah, it was tons of fun! The House of Hades is the fourth book in the Heroes of Olympus series. It’s difficult to understand if you haven’t read the previous books, and there are a lot of things going on in the book, so it’s kind of hard to explain. But basically the whole series is about Greek and Roman mythology told from the POV’s of teenagers. They have to fight lots of monsters. It really does make readers intrigued in ancient mythology. If you were interested in reading the series, I’d suggest starting with the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. The Heroes series is kind of like a continuation of the Olympians series. Hope that was helpful! If you want even more info about the book, you can look it up on Amazon or something. 🙂
